Congratulations to Tyler Wilkinson, Artist in Residence at Manifest

Posted on May 16, 2012

Congratulations to Tyler  Wilkinson, just named Artist in Residence at Manifest Gallery and Art Center in Cincinnati. It is a prestigious award, very competitive, and much deserved. Ty has been my student since his senior year in high school, even before he attended Centre. It’s been a pleasure working with him. He will graduate with his B.A on Sunday, and soon will be living and working in Cincy. Look for his new work at Manifest, when you are visiting. Here is a recent painting from his senior show: a self-portrait in the studio.

The Artist’s Magazine – Article on My Work

Posted on March 24, 2012

Dust

Dust. 16 x 20. Oil on Panel. 2011.

The current issue of The Artist’s Magazine has an article about my art by Daniel Brown. He is a marvelous writer and it was a pleasure to work with him on this.  Master of the Not-So-Still Still Life is in the May issue, just published. The whole article can be read in the printed magazine, available at your local bookstore, or downloaded as a PDF here.

There are also a couple of brief online supplements: on my studio lighting and the origin of still life.

Dust, the still life posted above, is one of the works in the article. It is shown developing from initial drawing to completion.
